Our Mission

Ormrod CWL Spring 2022 Championship

Ormrod CWL Spring 2022 Championship Team

Since 1927, the Ormrod Playground Association has been dedicated to fostering the holistic development of the youth in our community. Our mission is to cultivate qualities of leadership, teamwork, discipline, and commitment among the youth through the transformative power of sports. We believe that sports, particularly baseball and softball, serve as invaluable tools for fostering fun and imparting essential life skills.

Our commitment is unwavering: to inspire boys and girls to enhance their physical, mental, social, and interpersonal skills through the spirit of healthy competition. We recognize that the true measure of success lies not just in team records and accolades but in the personal growth of each player.

To fulfill our mission, we prioritize the genuine interest and development of our children. Our primary focus is on nurturing players as individuals, teammates, and skilled baseball/softball participants. Beyond the scoreboard, we emphasize the core values that contribute to character-building and long-term success.

We understand that our success is measured not only in wins but in the positive impact we have on the lives of our participants. By delivering on these principles, we aim to attract enthusiastic player and volunteer participation, with the ultimate goal of creating an environment that encourages their return year after year.

At the Ormrod Playground Association, we believe in the enduring power of sports to shape young lives positively. Our legacy since 1927 is a testament to our commitment to fostering the growth, resilience, and future success of the youth in our community.

History of Ormrod Ball

The Original Ormrod Tigers

Back in 1927 a lot of boys ranging in age from 10-14 years, banded together and called themselves the Ormrod Tigers. With little or no equipment nor the wherewithall to buy it with, by an inherent love of sport and the true spirit of sportsmanship, these boys, while growing up kept their organization intact.

In 1929 Luther Knerr was made manager of the team and although at the time there were only ten boys on the team, the Tigers have continued as a ball club and have ably justified their existence. At the time of their organization there were to ball clubs in Ormrod. Some years later the one ball club, the Dukes, disbanded and many of its members joined forces with The Tigers.

Volunteer Dedication

Ormrod functions as an organization run entirely by volunteers. Our passion for playing ball and bringing joy to children's faces drives our mission. We extend genuine gratitude to our sponsors, recognizing their vital role in sustaining our organization. All contributions raised by our dedicated volunteers are directly reinvested into supporting our youth programs.

Our board meets on the third Monday of every month. If you’re interested in attending you can contact us here.
